So Many Thoughts

Updated: May 15, 2022

I saw an article that stated people can have about 6,000+ thoughts per day. The human mind is truly amazing. So what do we think about? It is good to note the mind holds both conscious and subconscious thoughts. Thinking about what to wear, eat, and drink are examples of thoughts created by the conscious mind, while our subconscious mind holds all of our beliefs, programs, and memories. Unfortunately, these two aspects don't always communicate with each other. So if the subconscious mind harbors unresolved issues, our feelings remain stuck in the past and we stay there. This is why people with an addiction search for the zombie effect. This happens after years of ignoring or avoiding our feelings. We become afraid to face our hurt, and we find ourselves trapped. Our suffering becomes our own self-made prison. I wasn't ready to accept I was running away from fears. I've experienced trauma, which left me feeling hurt. Not letting go of all the hurt only kept me chained to my addictions for years. I eventually found my way out of the dark, but I had to choose to take the first step to find the light. I wish I could say it was easy, but it wasn't. Life is a journey, and I had to fall a few more times before I could accept I needed to take control of my life. We always have a choice, and our choices will determine the path for the life we create for ourselves.

If a person was physically or mentally abused, it can leave deep scars that are stored as unresolved feelings in the subconscious mind. This can affect every aspect of their life if they go into avoidance mode. They start to second guess themselves when fear and panic begin to take hold. These painful scars become so deeply ingrained in the subconscious mind we don't realize it. So if we feel stressed, it can lead to an emotional trigger. I would get triggered all the time. If I failed to complete a task, I would feel useless, lazy, and worthless. I wasn't reacting to the failed task but to the programmed beliefs I had about myself. If we experience trauma at an early age and never learned to process and deal with those feelings, we simply store them. So when we reach adulthood, our minds can often be stuck in a child-like state where we subconsciously childhood defense mechanisms in adulthood. People with addiction can also hold onto their pain with a false ideology it is part of their identity. I used to hold onto mine because I thought my pain was defined. I was supposed to suffer, I thought I deserved it. Isn't that crazy? Doing this just keeps hurting us over again. No one deserves this hell. This mental torture has driven people to commit suicide. They don't know how to cope. In the end, suicide hurts those we leave behind the most.

When we feel so lost, we aren't mentally equipped to realize we are on a path to self-destruction. We live never thinking about the overall consequences of our actions. So our temporary fix only creates more chaos. We need to understand we aren't alone. There are millions of people who slap on a happy smile when they head out into the world but they are hurting inside. The only way to start healing is our willingness to face our hurt. We need to surrender and let go. This is how we overcome our suffering so we can begin to heal. As we heal, we start to chip away at the layers of pain stored inside our subconscious minds. We are meant to be happy and successful, but the only way to achieve this is to look within. We are more than our past mistakes. We have the opportunity to create the life we want. Are you?
